We are in the heat of the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes after he cleared waivers following his release from the Cleveland Browns, but the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already removed themselves from the running, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

It's not for the reason you might expect, though. Perhaps OBJ's asking price is too high. One might think that Beckham brings far too much drama and headache wherever he goes, but Tampa certainly didn't have any qualms about bringing in Antonio Brown when he had plenty of drama surrounding his name. But, above all the practical explanations, Arians said this:

Of course, “OBJ” would expand the Bucs' letter bank by quite a bit, as they already have “AB” and “TB12” for Brown and their Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady.

It's obviously a comment that Arians made in jest, but there is some validity in what he says. For a player to be called by only their initials means that they have a decent amount of star power and recognition, and have a crazy good amount of talent. And there's no shortage of star power in the Buccaneers receiver room, as Odell Beckham would join Brown, and fellow Pro Bowl pass catchers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Rob Gronkowski if he were to come to Tampa.

Looking past the Buccaneers, it seems that, as of the early Wednesday afternoon that the Packers, Chiefs, and Saints are the front runners to land OBJ, with a few other teams also in hot pursuit. Whichever team ends up landing him will receive a player with plenty of drama but a complete resume, as he's posted 5 1,000+ yard seasons and made 3 Pro Bowls.

The NFL is better off when stars like Odell Beckham are performing. Let's hope he bounces back wherever he goes.
