The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ushered in some significant changes this offseason with the arrival of new head coach Bruce Arians. Although there are still some areas of concern in their personnel, he is convinced that the secondary is not one of them.

OTAs have given Bruce Arians a chance to see firsthand where Tampa Bay's strengths and weaknesses lie going into the 2019 NFL season.

According to joebucsfan.com, he has seen more than enough from the defensive backs to know they are secure over the top:

“Yeah, probably secondary, we’re really, really good,” Arians said with extra energy in his voice. “With Carlton [Davis] and Vernon [Hargreaves], we knew we had two solid corners. Now we got five solid corners. Ryan [Smith] came along. So yeah, earmarked as a problem set back in January, it’s totally fixed. Just knock on wood they stay healthy.”

This is certainly an encouraging update from Arians following the conclusion of OTAs. There had been plenty of speculation regarding the state of the secondary this offseason as it was often pegged as one of the weaker groups on a defense that has experienced some turnover.

Fortunately, it is clear that Arians is rather optimistic about them going into the 2019 campaign.

Of course, the secondary has been a point of emphasis for the Bucs in recent years. They invested their first two picks in last year's draft on cornerbacks only to follow it up by taking three defensive backs with consecutive picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Arians is hoping that their heavy investment in the secondary will come to fruition this season.
