Last offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut Gerald McCoy, and the defensive lineman ultimately signed with the Carolina Panthers.

McCoy went on to have a pretty productive 2019 campaign, playing in every game and registering 37 tackles and five sacks, and now, he is set to be a free agent.

You would think that McCoy would still have harbor some ill will toward the Buccaneers club that let him go a year ago, but believe it or not, he actually has fond memories of his time in Tampa Bay.

“It’s no hard feelings,” McCoy said on the Tampa Bay 55 podcast. “I’m going to always be a Buccaner regardless of how people feel. You can’t take that from me, because of the time I put in and how I went about it. I’m always going to feel like I’m a Buccaneer.”

The 31-year-old has even been working out in Tampa while wearing Bucs gear, so it seems like his hard has never left.

“Technically, I’m a free agent and can wear what I want,” McCoy said, laughing.

As for where McCoy will play in 2020? He says he wants to play for a contender, which probably rules out the Buccaneers, who have not made the playoffs since the 2007-08 campaign.

McCoy, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by Tampa Bay with the third overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He spent nine years with the Bucs, making six straight Pro Bowl appearances between 2012 and 2017. He also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2013 after racking up 50 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
