Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski isn't going to play against the New England Patriots on Sunday night, and there's a very good reason he's missing this much-anticipated reunion game. While there was optimism earlier in the week that Gronk would play, it turns out his rib injury is way worse than initially reported.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer talked to Gronk about the injury, with the Buccaneers star revealing the extent of the damage:

We knew Gronkowski had some broken ribs, but we didn't know just how many and didn't know that he had also punctured his lung. While the tight end did his best to be ready for the game against the Patriots, it's now evident why he's not suiting up. This injury could keep Gronk out past this week as well, and the Buccaneers will just have to hope that he's ready to go as soon as possible to help out Tom Brady moving forward.

Sunday night's game at Gillette Stadium is one of the most hyped regular-season games in recent memory. It's a bummer that Rob Gronkowski won't be able to play, but he certainly has a good excuse.
