Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones is expected to undergo surgery for his broken pinky finger sustained in their most recent encounter against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14 action, per Tampa Bay Times‘ Rick Stroud.

Stroud added that the case of Jones is similar to the injury sustained by Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin which caused him to miss out on one game.

With fellow ball-carrier Leonard Fournette being a healthy scratch prior to the game, the former USC product received most of the rushing snaps against the Vikings. He eventually tallied 80 rushing yards on 18 carries and a touchdown for the team while veteran LeSean McCoy added 32 yards on four touches in lieu of Fournette's absence.

The Buccaneers ultimately defended their home turf with a convincing 26-14 win to improve to an 8-5 record. Individually, Jones has managed to be significantly healthy for this season after appearing for 13 games and holds a total tally of 900 rushing yards on 180 attempts and six touchdowns.

With an increased role in his 2020 campaign, the third-year rusher is already on the verge of exceeding the 1,000 rushing yard mark with three games left on the Bucs' regular-season schedule.

The team can afford to wait for his complete recovery as they are set to face the skidding Atlanta Falcons for two of their final three outings, along with a game against the lowly Detroit Lions. The Bucs will be needing Ronald Jones at his full strength come the playoffs where they are expected to compete for a long postseason run.
