The Chicago Bulls dropped to 0-2 on the season with their loss to the Indiana Pacers. Newly appointed head coach Billy Donovan reflected on the team and some important life lessons after their demoralizing defeat.

“They don’t handle it. They don’t at all. They internalize their mistakes. They internalize what’s going on. And I’ve said this before: They’ve got to do this together. They’ve got to fight together,” the Bulls coach bluntly said after the contest, via K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports. “We’re probably on most nights probably not going to be the most athletic or the most talented or the most experienced. But we can be a team – we have control over it – that can have a lot more fight in ourselves.”

Donovan knows what it means to compete, as he coached an underdog Oklahoma City Thunder team to the fifth seed and into the playoffs in 2019-20.

The Bulls, who finished with a 22-43 record this past season and a 22-60 record the campaign before, have faced some challenging times during this current rebuilding phase. A team that no longer has Derrick Rose or Jimmy Butler to lead them to the playoffs are now looking at Zach Lavine and Coby White to help regain the confidence the team has lost these past few years.

Donovan really believes in his team, but it is up to them to start playing with confidence and a positive mentality.
