Brian Scalabrine may not be one of the best players to ever don the Chicago Bulls jersey, but he was definitely well-loved by their fans during his stint in The Windy City. Members of their current roster also think highly of him, especially for all the good moments he brought while still playing for the team.

That said, Lauri Markkanen felt the need to ask Scalabrine's permission first if he can wear the number 24 jersey he used to own. It can be considered a huge sign of respect from the young Bulls rookie, who has been playing impressive basketball for the team in their first three games of the season.

“The White Mamba” played his last two years in the NBA with the Bulls from 2010-12, before announcing his retirement after 11 seasons. He was also part of the 2008 championship-winning Boston Celtics team, which is his greatest feat as a professional. Scalabrine now serves as sportscaster for the C's, and also played for the Ball Hogs of the BIG3 League in their inaugural campaign.

Markkanen started his career in the league already wearing the 24 across his chest, and has since been playing at a very high level. Through three games, he's averaging solid numbers of 16.3 points, including 44.3 percent from beyond the arc, to go along with 9.3 rebounds in 34.0 minutes per game. If he can continue playing at this pace, not only will he make Scalabrine proud, but more importantly, he can help the Bulls own a respectable record, despite being in rebuild mode.
