The Arizona Cardinals are taking action against COO Ron Minegar, who was arrested and charged with DUI earlier this month. The team is suspending him for six weeks without pay and fining him $200,000, according to Katherine Fitzgerald of the Arizona Republic.

The $200,000 will be donated to the Arizona chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Minegar's arrest came after general manager Steve Keim was arrested and charged with DUI last year, so it was an especially bad look for the team.

“Minegar, who has been away from the team since the August 10th incident, will not be able to return until he has completed several additional steps,” the organization said in a statement. “These include but are not limited to an alcohol assessment, counseling and mandatory DUI education as well as community service.”

“As stated previously, the decision to drive after drinking alcohol is inexcusable,” the team said. “It is a serious offense that far too often has tragic results. We are incredibly grateful that did not occur in this instance. However, the behavior calls for severe consequences and these disciplinary measures demonstrate that. They also reflect that all those who work for the Cardinals and within the National Football League are held to a standard higher than simply a legal one.”

According to Fitzgerald, there will be no additional punishment from the league. The Cardinals are entering a new era of football with Kliff Kingsbury at the helm and Kyle Murray under center, so distractions like this are the last thing they need. Minegar has been working for the team since 200.
