Arizona Cardinals defensive end Ben Mayowa is entering the 2018 NFL season trying to prove himself once again. He feels his time with the Dallas Cowboys has prepared him to take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.

It goes without saying that playing for “America's Team” can be a unique experience for players. According to Darren Urban of the team website, Mayowa is hoping he will be given more chances to show he can produce with the Cardinals:

“The opportunity there, [the Cowboys] controlled it, and it kind of showed,” Mayowa said. “It happens. It happens to most of us. Now that I went through that, I feel like when I get an opportunity, I have to take more of an advantage. Even more than I have done. That was a learning experience.”

Mayowa added that the timing of their change to 4-3 falls in line perfectly with his skill set.

“I feel like I am the original 4-3 defensive end,” Mayowa said.

The former undrafted free agent has spent the first few years of his career as a bit of a journeyman. Mayowa was able to etch out an integral role in the Cowboys' defense during the 2016 campaign when he registered 25 tackles and 6.0 sacks in 13 games. Unfortunately, he followed it up with a disappointing 2017 NFL season. That said, it appears Mayowa may have attributed his down year to a lack of opportunity.

Fortunately, he has a chance at a fresh start in Arizona. The Cardinals will need someone to step up as a viable pass-rusher opposite defensive end Chandler Jones. Needless to say, Mayowa is confident he can fill that role and will seemingly have an advantage thanks to his background in the 4-3 scheme.
