The Arizona Cardinals are set to acquire starting cornerback Jamar Taylor from the Cleveland Browns for Arizona's sixth-round pick in 2020, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Rapoport adds that the Browns had been shopping Taylor since the draft and that the two sides have been in talks regarding a trade ever since. Taylor, who was set to make $4.5 million in 2018, has restructured his contract in order to sweeten the deal for the Cardinals.

Taylor fills an important need at cornerback for the Cardinals, who were looking for someone to start alongside All-Pro corner Patrick Peterson. Arizona drafted cornerback Chris Campbell in the sixth round, but have still kept looking for other options. They recently hosted veteran free agent Bashaud Breeland, who now appears set for the Indianapolis Colts with Taylor going to Arizona.

Taylor, 27, was a second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent his first three years in the league with the Dolphins, where he was unable to break through as a starter.

He was finally able to do so upon his arrival in Cleveland in 2016. He played in 31 out of a possible 32 games in his two years with the team, making 29 starts and recording three interceptions, 119 total tackles, and 23 passes defended.

As for the Browns, their overhaul of the cornerback depth chart continues. They’ve already gotten rid of Jason McCourty, who started opposite Taylor last season. They’ve also added TJ Carrie, E.J. Gaines, and Terrance Mitchell in free agency, and picked Denzel Ward with the No. 4 pick in the draft.
