Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge may have raised eyebrows for his recent comments about Gordon Hayward and his injury. But Ainge was quick to clarify his statements to calm everyone down.

As reported by Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald, Ainge was talking about Hayward and his road to recovery. Earlier, he said:

“He had like one setback for a couple of weeks, maybe a month and a half ago,” said Ainge. “We were progressing a little bit too fast, we thought.”

Ainge's statements, no matter how short, means so much, especially to Celtics fans. After all, they are poised for another playoff run this season. He knows this fact and realized that he might have had a poor choice of words. Later on, Ainge clarified his statements.

“‘Setback' wasn't the right word, so let me rephrase that because it's not exactly true to say it — or say it that way.

“What happened is he went on the AlterG [anti-gravity treadmill] the first day and he felt some soreness. It was the first day he tried the AlterG, a long time ago. He just wasn't ready for it at that point. That's all it was.

It wasn't like he had an accident or anything like that. I used the word ‘setback,' and it became a headline. Like, ‘Oh, setback.' It got blown out of proportion. It's my fault. I'm not blaming anybody. ‘Setback' was probably too strong of a word.”

To recall, Hayward suffered a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle in his left leg on opening night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite his absence, the Celtics have powered their way to an impressive 47-23 record.
