On Sunday night, one of the most historic days for the Boston Celtics happened, as they retired the jersey of a legend of theirs in Paul Pierce. He spent 16 seasons in Beantown, through the ups and downs, and was a vital cog of their championship-winning team in 2008. Along with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, and coached by Doc Rivers, they were able to quickly build strong chemistry, resulting in a title in their first year working together.

The members of the team from 10 years ago had a special bond which they share until this day. Rivers even recalled a memory that he had and shared that even before they won the title in 2008, the entire team had already planned to attend Pierce’s retirement, via Jay King of Mass Live.

“This is a day that we actually talked about before we won the title,” Rivers said. “This is literally a day that we talked about, as far as the whole team, that was going to happen. And we all said we'd be there so I'm here.”

Rivers’ comments only go to show how much they respect Pierce on and off the court. He was the consummate professional during his playing days and continued to be a leader even in his final years as a player. He has won a lot of honors including being named an All-Star 10-times and a member of the All-NBA Team four times. Pierce was also named the Finals MVP in 2008, which cemented his place as an all-time Celtics great. His confidence is also of legendary status.

Rivers, Garnett, and Rondo were all present to witness Pierce’s jersey raised up in the rafters of TD Garden. They all stayed true to their word, which definitely proves that they are all class acts as well, just like The Truth.
