Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward says that his knee is fine, but he will likely be out when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Per Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston, Hayward believes that his knee will be sore. He didn't provide a specific timeline for his return, noting that he'll take it “day-by-day.”

In their 129-120 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, Hayward left the game in the second quarter after Daniel Theis inadvertently hit his knee following a scramble. The injury was tagged as a right knee contusion.

The last 22 games will be critical for the Celtics if they want to snatch the second seed from the Toronto Raptors. They currently sport a 41-19 record for third place in the East, having won six of their last 10 games.

The Brad Stevens-led squad is finally clicking this season. A welcome sight for Celtics fans who have seen their team underperform over the past two seasons.

What's more impressive is that they're playing well despite the spate of injuries that have hit their core group of Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward. The Celtics have only played 14 games with all five of them available at the same time, a testament to Boston's depth and Stevens' supreme coaching abilities.

However, as the postseason nears, the Celtics need to be as healthy as possible. Contending teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks, Raptors, and the Heat all have a shot at representing the East in the NBA Finals. The Cs are very capable of outlasting these teams — but only if they're all healthy.
