Before the 2018-19 season started, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics were picked to win the East easily.

However, Boston was dysfunctional from start to finish and lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games.

Kyrie Irving got most of the blame from the Celtics fans and media, even though Tatum said back in December that the Celtics’ shortcomings in the 2018-19 season can’t be solely placed on Irving’s shoulders.

In an interview with Jackie MacMullan of ESPN, Tatum admits last season “wasn't any fun.”

“Last year for me, especially when things weren't going my way, unfortunately it translated to defense,” Jayson Tatum admits. “I wasn't as engaged when I wasn't happy. That happened a lot last year. They were some very tough days, more often than not. It really wasn't any fun.”

It's a new year now, though, and the Celtics appear on their way to redeeming themselves after last season’s dysfunctional campaign.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is starting to look really smart for not trading Tatum and Jaylen Brown for some of the superstars who have requested trades over the past few seasons. Both youngsters are playing like All-Stars this season.

Tatum has appeared in 42 games this season for the Celtics. He’s averaging 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists while shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 84.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The Celtics are 31-15 on the season after defeating the Miami Heat on Tuesday. They are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
