There were a lot of things that went wrong for the Boston Celtics during the closing seconds of their Game 5 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Perhaps, however, nothing was more crucial than the miscommunication between Jayson Tatum and the rest of the team near the end that doomed them.

During the play when Marcus Smart got blocked, Tatum admitted he was supposed to come off a pin-down screen from Al Horford. However, as can be seen on videos of the play, Tatum and Horford did not move and got stuck on the right win as Jrue Holiday made the crucial stop for the Bucks.

Jayson Tatum confessed about the miscommunication and how they failed to execute the play. However, he did not forget to give credit to Holiday since he really made the difference for the Bucks to beat the Celtics.

“There was miscommunication, and the play broke down. Jrue Holiday made a great play at the rim,” Tatum shared, per NBA insider Keith Smith.

It was indeed a costly mistake for the Celtics. With 11.4 second lefts on the close, there were still plenty of time for them to make the game-winning play. All they needed was one basket to win, but they were unable to respond to the pressure of the moment and collapsed.

Of course it is still not the end for the Celtics, but with the Bucks up 3-2, they can no longer afford to commit the same mistakes they did on Wednesday night.
