There is no shortage of talent in the Boston Celtics locker room. Five-time All-Star Kyrie Irving and last season's rookie sensation Jayson Tatum recently went at it in a playful war of words, which eventually ended up with the 20-year-old blaming team general manager Danny Ainge for him not being selected as last year's first overall pick.

According to Celtics reporter Chris Forsberg, the friendly squabble started with Tatum questioning Irving's college credentials. The former NBA champ fired back with a savage shot of his own. Not to be outdone, Tatum had to drag Ainge's name to the conversation just to save face.

That's a whole lot of ego going back and forth there.

Tatum thought it would be wise to grill Irving on his short-lived college career with Duke, which was hampered by a toe injury that would cause the highly-rated recruit to sit out the majority of his one-and-done year with the Blue Devils. Irving's injury and lack of experience by no means scared off the Cleveland Cavaliers who still decided to use their first overall pick on him in the 2011 Draft. Irving made sure Tatum did not forget this bit of history.

Tatum, who himself was a former Duke standout, has much fonder memories of his single college playing year. The former five-star recruit suited up for the Blue Devils on 29 separate occasions averaging 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest.

Tatum was drafted third overall by the Celtics last season after the team decided to trade away the rights to the first overall pick to the Philadelphia 76ers. Many believe that Ainge pulled the trigger on this deal because he knew he could still snatch the 6-foot-8 small forward at the third spot. In this context, Tatum was actually speaking the truth in his witty counterpunch against Irving's jab.
