It sounds like things are moving ahead nicely with I Am Legend 2, according to Will Smith.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor stated that he’s working with Michael B. Jordan on some ideas for a sequel.

Will Smith discusses the future of I Am Legend 2

“We [Jordan and him] had a couple of weeks together about a month ago,” Smith said. “I think it’s looking good.”

He added, “[We have some] really solid ideas…I think we’re going to make it on screen together. That dude is the truth, so I would love to do that.”

The original movie came out in 2007. It starred Smith as the last living human in New York City after a virus destroyed most of the population, causing mutants to develop. However, other humans were discovered, hence the potential for a sequel.

It received decent reviews, landing at a 68% Tomatometer and 68% audience score on Rotton Tomatoes. In the U.S., it grossed $256.4M.

Meanwhile, Smith is gearing up for his new movie with Martin Lawrence, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. It’s the 4th sequel based on the Bad Boys movies that stars the two.

The new film revolves around a corruption issue within the Miami PD, with Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), who is accused of working with drug cartels. Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) are a couple of detectives who set out to clear his name but find themselves in the process of becoming outlaws.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith has high hopes for the new flick.

“I’m very excited about this one,” the star said. “We want it to feel nostalgic, but we also want the characters to be experiencing things that are age-appropriate and experience-appropriate. It’s a challenge to keep it fun and keep it exciting and make sure that the popcorn part is enjoyable, but also letting it be gourmet popcorn. It is popcorn, but it’s definitely got some special sauce on it.”

About creating the sequel, they had it mapped out before beginning.

“That’s the thing that is important [in making] another one: It has to have an emotional base that is interesting and riveting, not just trying to blow some stuff up,” Smith continued. “At this point in my life, I need the movies to be about something. Part of why Bad Boys works for people is at the heart of it is friendship. At the heart of it is love. At the heart of it is a relationship, and it’s the kind of relationship that we all wish we had, somebody that will ride or die with us and for us.”

“We’re trying to expand on what that would mean at this age when people start growing apart and they start wanting different things,” he added. “You’ve got 30 years worth of friendship that, for me, it is important in these movies that it gets jeopardized and there is some part of it that has a deeper idea about life, about love, about friendship, about fear. And this one is about fate and what is the part that fate actually plays in the building of a friendship, in a building of life.”

Bad Boys: Ride or Die will be released in theaters on June 5 in the UK and June 7 in the U.S. Currently, there is no release date for I Am Legend 2. We’ll let you know as production ramps up and more from Will Smith starts to surface.
