After Kyrie Irving requested a trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers ultimately traded him to the Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and two draft picks. Considering the circumstances, many feel the Cavaliers won the trade as Irving will have an opportunity to be a team's first option.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN, Paul Pierce shared his thoughts about the trade:

“Kyrie can impact this team in a major way,” Pierce said in an exclusive 1-on-1 interview with CSN’s A. Sherrod Blakely. “You saw what Isaiah Thomas was able to do. A lot of people, even though Isaiah averaged more points, a lot of people believe Kyrie is a better scorer.”

While Thomas averaged more points last season, Pierce believes Irving averaging 25.2 points alongside LeBron James is impressive:

“If you can average 25 points, 26 points and you got LeBron James on your team, that’s pretty impressive,” Pierce said.

After being linked with numerous All-Stars for the last couple of seasons, the Celtics felt Irving was worth giving up numerous assets for. With the 25-year-old looking to take the next step in his career, he will still have plenty of help with Gordon Hayward and Al Horford along with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Heading into the 2017-18 NBA season, it will take time for the Celtics to build chemistry as only four players remain from last season's roster. With Irving leading the way, the Celtics are expected to meet with the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals again and hopefully end James' NBA Finals streak.
