There are a number of apt ways to describe Boston Celtics rookie big man Robert Williams and punctual is highly unlikely one of them. After all, he made a bad impression months ago when he missed an introductory conference call following Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge drafting him late in the first round of this year’s NBA Draft. It is also for the same reason why the nickname “Time Lord” is probably the most ironic of all monikers in pro sports today.

The nickname has gained popularity online, especially with Robert Williams earning an increase in playing time of late due to injuries to fellow Celtics big men Aron Baynes and Al Horford, and word has inevitably caught the attention of Danny Ainge.

Ainge, perhaps knowing the ironic connotation of the moniker, showed his dislike of the Time Lord nickname when asked about it during a recent appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub's “Toucher & Rich,” (h/t Darren Hartwell of NBC Sports Boston).

“No, I don't,” Ainge said plainly Thursday on 98.5 The Sports Hub's “Toucher & Rich.” “That's a bad name. … We can do better.”

Ainge was not able to provide a suggestion for a replacement for an otherwise catchy nickname right away but later came up with one that he proudly shared thorugh his Twitter account.

It would be difficult to counter any assertions that say Time Lord is better than Lob Williams, but if there’s one thing we know about Ainge based on his job as a Celtics executive, it’s that he gets what he wants.
