It was a night to remember for the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, as they secured a huge statement win against the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors. The C's were absolutely relentless throughout the contest, as they were able to demolish the Dubs, 128-95, in Oakland.
In his piece for The Athletic, Jay King points out that there may have been some foreshadowing events that led to this monumental win. King explains that according to some members of the Celtics camp, there was a strong sense of unity that prevailed in recent days.
Over the last couple of days several members of the organization swore they could feel a change. The Celtics were looser and more energetic. They had a bounce to them that had gone missing over the last couple of weeks and had been absent throughout long stretches of this season. They were acting, they emphasized, like a team.
Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving seems to agree, as the All-Star point guard was even able to pinpoint the exact moment the tides changed for the team.
To Irving, the shift started while on a cross-country flight from Boston to the Bay Area.
“That long plane ride helped us out,” Irving said. “I’ll just say that.”
This might just be the turning point to Boston's season that they have been longing for. It could not have come at a more timely juncture, with the postseason fast approaching.
The Celtics are back in action on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings in a second night of a back-to-back, so we will all see soon enough if this is indeed more than just a one-off.
