The Boston Celtics have a shot at a championship despite losing free-agent acquisition Gordon Hayward to an injury at the beginning of the season. But the Celtics don’t appear to be standing pat and are reportedly active in trade talks to obtain the Memphis Grizzlies’ combo guard Tyreke Evans.

Real GM’s Keith Smith reports that the Celtics are planning to gain Evans’ services by dangling a first-round pick and a player or two to the Grizzlies.

“I have heard the Celtics would like Tyreke Evans and are willing to talk moving their own first round pick, but want to send a player(s) to Memphis, to conserve the DPE for use on another player. They don't want to just let go of the $5M in salary difference between Evans & DPE.”

Evans leads the Grizzlies in scoring this season with 19.5 points per game while shooting 39.5 percent from 3-point range. It’s his highest scoring average since his rookie year when he scored 20.1 a night.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski‏ reports that we won’t be seeing Evans play until he is traded to another team.

“As trade discussions involving Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyreke Evans intensify, front office plans to sit him out until a deal is completed, league sources tell ESPN. He'll start sitting vs. Pacers tonight. Trade deadline is next Thursday.”

If the Celtics get this deal done, he will likely play behind Jaylen Brown at the shooting guard spot. Coach Brad Stevens will also find time for Evans to play some backup point guard duties when Kyrie Irving needs a breather.
