When the New Orleans Pelicans turned down the Los Angeles Lakers' trade offer for Anthony Davis at the February trade deadline, the assumption was that the Boston Celtics would have the best chance at landing Davis this summer. After all, the Celtics had arguably the best young pieces in any trade (Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown) and a host of first-round picks in the upcoming draft.
However, while the Celtics could certainly still try to swing a deal for Davis, the situation has become more complicated.
Point guard and unrestricted free agent Kyrie Irving may be on his way out of Boston after a season in which his leadership was questioned. And with Davis in the last year of his current deal next season, they would not want to acquire him unless they receive a long-term commitment.
As such, the Celtics have reportedly made inquiries into the availability of Houston Rockets center Clint Capela, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.

As ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported last week, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was willing to take calls on essentially every player on the roster aside from James Harden.
Depending on the package, Capela could be an ideal fit in Boston next to Al Horford. Whereas Horford provides more in the way of offensive playmaking, Capela's rebounding and shot-blocking abilities would make for an imposing frontcourt — an area where the Celtics have been lacking in the last few years.
