Chargers center Mike Pouncey should be ready to go to start the 2020 season after being cleared after neck surgery. Pouncey only played in five games during the 2019 season because of the neck injury. Pouncey told reporters all that is behind him now, and he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Via Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Pouncey said:

“I feel great … I don’t want to retire any time soon.”

Pouncey has been one of the best centers in football and will play an important role on the 2020 Chargers team. Pouncey started every game for the Chargers in 2018, and in his first eight years in the league he has played in 109 of 128 possible games.

The big question for Pouncey and the Chargers is to whom will he be snapping the ball. Tyrod Taylor was expected to be the starter before the team selected Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft, but now there will probably be a quarterback battle.

NFL.com's Michael Silver predicts that Taylor could be the starting quarterback for the entire 2020 season.

“So when they do finally get back to camp and [Herbert] gets to know his new teammates, he might not be that magnetic personality who takes over. And the offense Anthony Lynn wants to run is perfect for Tyrod Taylor right now, turnover reverse, and great mobility. The Chargers believe they have enough talent to win with that style of attack. I believe Tyrod Taylor could be the quarterback the entire season.”

Whoever is the starting quarterback, Pouncey should ready to block for him.
