It's been a rough beginning for Jason Verrett. Drafted 25th overall in 2014, the Los Angeles Chargers cornerback has experienced the shelf far more than the playing field.

Playing in just 25 games of a possible 64, frustration has built up in not only the franchise and its fans, but Verrett himself. But he's ready to get back after it in 2018, as Verrett told the fans via an interview with the official LA Chargers Twitter account.

“I think it’s going to be a little bit more juice, just dealing with the fact that I lost two seasons,” Verrett told Hayley Elwood of the team website. “I’m hungry. I’m going to grind. I’m going to grind, grind, grind. They’re going to see the Pro Bowl player they saw in 2015.”

“Going into last season, in training camp, it was tough for me,” Verrett said. “I was hoping for a breakthrough. I was hoping for the scar tissue to break up. Unfortunately, it didn’t. Coming in Week 1, I knew mentally I wasn’t ready. I knew physically I wasn’t ready. I just was trying to go out there with the competitive mindset that I have.

“I felt the surgery was needed. It was tough having to get another surgery and dealing with all of that, but it was needed.”

It wasn't long ago that Verrett, 27, made the Pro Bowl (2015). He started and played in 14 games that season while coming away with three interceptions, 12 passes defensed, 42 tackles and a defensive touchdown.

His other three seasons have produced games played numbers of six, four and one. He's literally seen three of his early NFL seasons go up in smoke due to injury.

Jason Verrett and the Los Angeles Chargers remain hopeful that 2018 can bring everybody back to 2015.
