The Los Angeles Chargers have had an up-and-down season in Los Angeles, with the highest of highs (victories over the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals) and the lowest of lows (a loss to the Denver Broncos and a blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens.) That roller-coaster of a season took yet another twist on Monday when ESPN's Field Yates reported that LA's star receiver Keenan Allen was placed on the team's “COVID-19 list.”

If Allen is vaccinated, he can return after two negative tests taken 24 hours apart or after a 10-day COVID-19 isolation period. If Allen is unvaccinated, however, he’s either out for 10 days (positive test) or five days (close contact with someone who tested positive.) Both the question of if Allen is vaccinated as well as if this was a positive test or a close contact will be the true determiner of how long Allen is out.

If the Chargers are forced to be without Allen, it will be a huge loss to the offense. Allen leads LA with 89 catches and 929 receiving yards in 2021 while also chipping in four touchdowns.

Mike Williams will certainly be asked to step up in the event of Allen being forced to miss a game or two. Also on the roster, the Chargers have Andre Roberts, Jalen Guyton, and Josh Palmer. Those three, however, have not even combined to have the production that Allen has had in 2021.

If the Chargers need a silver lining from today, they can at least find solace in the fact that the team expects Joey Bosa and Austin Ekeler to both be ready for this Sunday's home game against the New York Giants.
