Former Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was one of the league's best defenders during his prime but has since found success analyzing the game instead. During an appearance on Fox Sports Radio, Merriman believes his former team is very interested in adding Rosen to their roster.

“The Chargers could be seriously interested, and from what I’m hearing it’s a big possibility that he could end up there.”

Merriman recognizes Rosen's UCLA background as an added bonus for the Chargers, and the possibility of Rosen joining the Chargers could become very realistic. Quarterback Phillip Rivers is 38 years old and likely won't be playing too much longer, so a prospect to take over once he is gone is a smart move on the franchise's part.

Although Rivers is still playing at an elite level, he can not be expected to play as long as a player like Tom Brady. Even though Rivers would love to play forever, mentoring a player like Josh Rosen could mean big things for the Chargers organization. Rosen already appears to be well on his way to having a successful career; it's simply a matter of where he will play considering the endless rumors surrounding him.

The Chargers would likely have to pay a decent amount for Rosen; a first-round draft pick is likely the price for a promising quarterback. Rosen is a talented player, but lack of a line and playmakers on the Arizona Cardinals didn't do him any favors in 2018. Things could be much better for Rosen if he were to land with the Chargers somehow.
