According to Shawne Merriman, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton believes that Tom Brady will join the Los Angeles Chargers during free agency.

“He thinks that Tom is going to come to the Chargers,” Merriman tells TMZ Sports.

The Chargers announced they are moving on from Phillip Rivers so they will be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason. Merriman has heard what Newton has said, but doesn't think that is what will go down. The former Chargers standout jokingly said he hates Brady, and thinks Newton would be the perfect guy to take over the starting job.

“Tom's a great quarterback, he's just not a great quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers,” Merriman says … “I think if you're going to move from a different direction from Phillip, you go in and get somebody that could do a little bit more — a little more athletic.”

“I just brought up one name, I think Cam Newton is a — could be a really good choice. Even for the short term. And, you can still go draft.”

The other big question is where Rivers will go. Merriman knows that he is going to get another chance next season to lead a new team.

Everyone seems to be making their predictions about where all these free-agent quarterbacks are going, but one thing is for sure, it's going to be a wild offseason with a lot of movement. The NFL next season has the chance to look a lot different with a couple of future Hall of Famers on the move.
