There seems to be nothing but respect between veteran head coaches Bill Belichick and Andy Reid heading into the NFL season opener. The New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs will go head-to-head on Thursday with Belichick having high praise for his counterpart.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Reid has maintained a relationship with Belichick built on respect for one another.

“We've been doing this a long time, so you get to know each other over the years and you respect each other's work,” Reid said. “Nobody does it better than him. We've talked and raised kids at the same time, done all those things at the same time, and come up through it that way. We've just gotten to know each other over the years and I appreciate his friendship and I appreciate what he's done for the National Football League too.”

Belichick, who is widely regarded as the league's elite at the head coaching position, thinks very highly of Reid, via Reiss.

This week Belichick, 65, referred to Reid as “one of the great coaches in this league.”

On Thursday night, the Chiefs and Patriots will usher in the NFL season with these two AFC heavyweights hoping to have bragging rights once the final whistle blows at Gillette Stadium in New England.

As expected, the Patriots are the favorites in this matchup with Tom Brady and company looking to get their Super Bowl title defense underway with a win against a formidable opponent in Reid's Chiefs.
