The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign free agent running back Le'Veon Bell, first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bell, 28, was released by the New York Jets earlier this week following an 0-5 start by head coach Adam Gase and the fledgling AFC East club. After getting at odds with Gase, the Jets released the former All-Pro rusher after signing him to a four-year, $52.5 million in March 2019.

Le'Veon Bell would only appear in 17 games across the 2019 and 2020 NFL seasons for the Jets before his release and subsequent reported signing with last year's Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Terms have not been disclosed as of yet beyond it being a one-year deal, although it's expected Bell will sign for the minimum given his most recent salary still being paid by the Jets, who owe the former Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowler $35 million in guarantees.

It appears that Le'Veon Bell will go from the worst team in the NFL to the league-best Chiefs, who aren't undefeated after suffering a loss to AFC West division rival Las Vegas Raiders last week, but they still hold a prestigious pedigree, especially with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center.

Bell rushed for a career-low 3.2 yards per carry in his first season with the Jets last year and in total rushed for 863 yards for three touchdowns with Gang Green.

However, for Bell, he can expect to see the Jets again when the Chiefs match up with the lowly AFC franchise in Week 8, assuming he passed the NFL's COVID-19 protocol and can be on the field for Kansas City. Reportedly, Bell also narrowed down his choices in free agency after his release by New York to AFC East teams in the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins (he apparently works out in the south Florida metropolis).
