The franchise tag deadline is on Tuesday at 4:00 pm Eastern. We're bound to see multiple teams place the franchise tag on players until then. The Kansas City Chiefs finally made a decision on what they plan to do with Orlando Brown Jr., as the front office hopes to maintain the core of the roster as much as possible.

According to Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are officially placing the franchise tag on Orlando Brown Jr. This makes him the first player of the offseason to receive the tag. Kansas City ensures the offensive line stays intact, but at what cost?

Kansas City will have to pay about $16.5 million on the franchise tag, per Dov Kleiman. Brown is making a solid amount of money, but it's only for one season. Regardless, he'll remain with the Chiefs for next season as the franchise aims to make another potential Super Bowl run. Unfortunately, according to Dov Kleiman, with Orlando Brown Jr. receiving the franchise tag, that means star safety Tyrann Mathieu should be entering the free agency market.

The Chiefs viewed Orlando Brown as the more important asset in this situation. He played well throughout last season dominating his opponents to protect Patrick Mahomes. Brown played a vital role in Kansas City's success and the front office wants to make sure he remains on the roster.

Look for the Chiefs to possibly offer Brown an extension at some point. If Kansas City does decide to extend their star offensive tackle, he could fetch a massive contract making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history, per Spotrac.

It's not a guarantee, but it is a move we've seen other franchises follow through with before. We'll see how it plays out, but at the very least, Mahomes has an elite offensive tackle protecting his blindside for at least one more year. Look for the Chiefs to remain busy throughout the offseason as they hope to retain most of the roster.
