The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off what was seemingly impossible when they stunned the Bills in overtime on Sunday night in the AFC Divisional Round. With just 13 seconds left in regulation, the Chiefs managed to get into field goal range and tie the game up, forcing overtime.

Travis Kelce was the X-factor late in the game, with his fourth-quarter reception setting up Harrison Butker's game-tying kick.

Well, Kelce and Mahomes spoke on the pivotal play after the game and revealed that Kelce's route was actually improvised:

Speaking to the media after the game, Kelce and Mahomes both reiterated that the play was not set up by design. Instead, Kelce came to Mahomes and told him he planned on running straight into the open field, knowing the team had minimal time to get into field goal range. Kelce's suggestion was clearly a wise one, and Mahomes could be heard shouting with enthusiasm before the snap, telling his star tight end, ā€œDo it Kelce!ā€ before he fired a dart to his target.

That type of synchronization doesn't happen overnight, and for Kelce and Mahomes to feel so comfortable with one another to make an on-the-fly adjustment like that shows just how locked in the pair are. Kelce showcased his football IQ by identifying a flaw in Buffalo's defensive setup and relayed the information quickly to Mahomes, who executed the play perfectly.

As soon as Kelce brought the suggestion to Mahomes, the Chiefs QB's mind got to work and realized that his tight end had the right idea. It's not often you'll find a quarterback-tight end tandem with as much faith in one another as the Mahomes-Kelce combo.
