The Kansas City Chiefs are retooling their offense after trading Tyreek Hill with the additions of Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Ronald Jones. But they still have work to do on defense, especially in the back. With Davante Adams and Russell Wilson now in the division, the Chiefs need to add depth in the secondary.

Losing safety Daniel Sorensen in free agency to the New Orleans Saints and potentially losing Tyrann Mathieu underscores Kansas City's need for defensive backs. The Chiefs' front office has two big-name cornerbacks on its mind. According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, KC is interested in free agent Stephon Gilmore and trade target James Bradberry to boost their secondary.

Gilmore is one of the best free agents still available. The five-time Pro Bowler and 2019 Defensive Player of the Year is one of the best cornerbacks out there, though he didn't have his best season in 2021. In just nine games, he recorded two interceptions and two defended passes. The Las Vegas Raiders have made a run at him this offseason. The Chiefs would be much improved if they signed the 31-year-old star.

Bradberry, a 2020 Pro Bowler, regressed last season. The 28-year-old still defended 17 passes and recorded a career-high four interceptions. He is under contract for just one more season with a cap hit of $21 million. Because the New York Giants badly need to fix their cap situation, trading for him may not be so hard. Kansas City has 12 picks they could offer in this upcoming draft.
