Steve Ballmer, the fiery owner of the LA Clippers, now has another reason to be fired up: the team should easily make the playoffs in the Western Conference, and they just agreed to an extension with Doc Rivers for him to remain the coach there for the foreseeable future.

In recent days, Rivers was prominently featured in rumors regarding him switching allegiances within the City of Angels, as the Lakers are seemingly not sold on Luke Walton as a long-term coaching option with LeBron James in the fold.

In Rivers’s pregame press conference before the team’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers, however, Doc doubled down on the news about his recent re-upping with the Clippers.

It seems that Ballmer is positioning the Clippers as the premier team in Los Angeles — instead of the circus-like atmosphere that the Lakers currently possess. With multiple big-name free agents already heavily linked to the Clippers this offseason (notably Kawhi Leonard), the Clips will be a significant player this summer.

With a terrific cache of young talent led by 2018 first-round draft picks Landry Shamet and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, as well as a plethora of draft picks via the Tobias Harris deal with Philadelphia (not to mention the insane swindling of the Lakers that brought Ivica Zubac to the Clips), Steve Ballmer, Doc Rivers and the Clippers look to be in great shape this offseason.
