The four teams that will be in the College Football Playoff appear to be set after Notre Dame’s double-overtime win over Clemson on Saturday.

On the daily Locked On College Football podcast, Zac Blackerby and Isaiah Hole discussed the impact of this game and the four teams that will be selected.

Blackerby: I think, to me, with Notre Dame winning this, we know the four teams in the College Football Playoff. That’s kind of my take from this.

Hole: Absolutely. I think you’re definitely spot on. This is what I thought was probably going to happen, right? Clemson is not going to drop out of the top four. I think everyone realizes that they are a different team with Trevor Lawrence at the helm, probably the best player in college football. So, when you don’t have him, it’s a different story. Notre Dame takes them to double overtime without Trevor Lawrence. So that tells you that you’re at least equal to Clemson without their best player. So how much would Lawrence account for? That remains to be seen.

Notre Dame will have its chance to win out and we will see how it shapes out with the rest of the teams to see what the ACC Championship is but Clemson is going to get that benefit of the doubt. Say they don’t get to go to the ACC Championship because of this one game, and I don’t know how it works with all of the tiebreakers but let’s say it ends up being Notre Dame and Miami, the Canes certainly had a fun game on Friday night, Clemson’s going to get that benefit of the doubt. Ohio State and Alabama, as long as they take care of business, they can even mess up once as long as it isn’t in the championship game, I think they’re in.

I think we know what these teams are for the most part. Notre Dame just really lucked out in my eyes. I don’t think that they are one of the best four teams in the nation but kind of like any other year where they get into the playoff or BCS Championship game, they are a benefactor to their schedule.
