The Indianapolis Colts have made it clear for a while now that they want to upgrade their receiving corps. They have T.Y. Hilton, but not much else. They've struggled to find a consistent number two option, and have been linked to some big names through the draft, trade market, and in free agency.

But they did get some good news about one of the current options they have in-house, as Deon Cain is expected to be ready to roll by training camp, according to Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. Cain was a rookie last year, and never played in a game. He was having a great training camp and the team was really excited about him, but then he tore his ACL in the Colts' first preseason game.

Colts GM Chris Ballard seemed high on his potential when speaking from the combine, saying “We liked him a lot when we drafted him. We really liked him through OTA’s and Training Camp. Very unfortunate what happened in Seattle. The negative is we don’t know yet. Hasn’t played an NFL game. He’s worked awfully hard to come back from this injury. He hasn’t missed a day.”

“He’s on track to be ready for Training Camp. Now it’s a matter of him going out and having to prove it again. It’s almost like he’s a rookie again. For us to sit here and say no doubt this guy is going to be our No. 2 receiver, I can’t sit here and say that. Do I think he has two ability? Absolutely I do. But to say he’s going to reach that after his rookie season, I’m not there,” Ballard continued.

Cain, a sixth round pick from Clemson, sounds like he has a legitimate chance to be the second option the Colts are looking for. Unfortunately, they won't be able to see much of him before this summer, and they'll have to make moves in the meantime. But the fact that Cain's recovery is going smoothly is big, and we could be hearing his name a lot in 2019.
