Even with Matt Ryan on the roster, the Indianapolis Colts are still looking to add to the quarterback position on their roster.

During the Colts rookie minicamp on Friday afternoon, reporters asked head coach Frank Reich about the possibility of bringing in a veteran quarterback behind Ryan, and the fifth-year coach did not rule out the possibility.

“(General manager) Chris (Ballard) and I, you know how we roll,” Reich said. “It’s 24/7/365: ‘Is this roster where it needs to be at every position?'”

While there are several veteran quarterbacks available, it appears that the main guy reporters are suggesting the team could be after is Nick Foles.

Foles, a third-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, is very familiar with Reich's offense.

Reich spent one season as the offensive coordinator of the Eagles with Foles on the roster in 2017 when Philadelphia won the Super Bowl.

When starting quarterback (and former Colt) Carson Wentz tore his ACL in a Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Foles went on an improbable run, culminating in the Eagles beating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Since that fairytale 2017 season, Foles has bounced around between the Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Jacksonville Jaguars. During the 2021 season, Foles played in just one game for the Bears all year.

Despite Ryan's durability, it would be not the worst idea for the Colts to bring in a capable backup behind the NFL's 2016 Most Valuable Player.

Currently, the only other quarterbacks on the Colts roster are the 2020 sixth-round draft pick, Sam Ehlinger, and New York Jets' 2020 fourth-round pick, James Morgan.
