The Indianapolis Colts used the 34th overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft on a wide receiver, selecting former USC star Michael Pittman Jr. In a conference call with the front office and owner Jim Irsay, general manager Chris Ballard compared Pittman to former Pro Bowler Vincent Jackson.

“Every time I watch him, I like him better. He’s big, he’s a build-up-speed guy, he can finish on the deep ball, he wins 50-50 battles. I just think the guy’s gonna be a good football player in this league,” Ballard said.

It's no surprise Ballard would compare Pitman to Jackson, as they both share similar physiques. Jackson was a 6-foot-5 receiver that played phenomenal in his time with the San Diego Chargers and the Tampa Buccaneers. The former Pro Bowler had six 1,000-yard seasons and finished his career off with 540 catches for 9,080 yards and 57 touchdowns. Nevertheless, if Pittman's size had to be compared to a former NFL player, it would certainly be Jackson.

This past season, Pittman was incredibly productive at USC as a senior, catching 101 passes for 1,275 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, his astonishing performances earned him Second Team All-American and a First-Team All-Pac-12 selections.

The Colts will certainly hope Pittman will provide that explosiveness they desperately need on offense. With Philip Rivers as the starting quarterback, Pittman should find plenty of room to produce immediately, especially since Rivers loves to take deep shots down the field. After narrowly missing the playoffs last season, the Colts will be seeking to return this upcoming season with their revamped offense.
