Ian Rapoport reports that Indianapolis Colts center and seventh round pick Javon Patterson suffered a torn ACL during practice.

Colts head coach Frank Reich announced that Patterson will miss the entire 2019 NFL season.

“Unfortunately Javon Patterson did sustain an ACL injury, so he'll be out for the year,” Reich told Indianapolis reporters. “Tough break for him, but one of the things we know about Javon: high character guy. We've talked to him and will give him the support he needs.”

Patterson was the Mr. Irrelevant of the 2019 NFL Draft, as the Colts took him with the last pick of the seventh round.

Patterson was one of the top recruited guards coming out of high school. After making multiple starts at center and right guard, Patterson played two full seasons at left guard before going into the NFL Draft.

Fourth-year center Ryan Kelly is the assumed starter in the middle of the line, but Patterson was expected to compete for a backup role on the Colts' offensive line.

With his versatility on the offensive line during his time with Ole Miss, Patterson would have been made available to be a backup across the offensive line.

Patterson will have to wait until the 2020 season to compete for a role on the Colts offense.
