News of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck's retirement was leaked during the team's third preseason game, and running back Marlon Mack first heard about it from fans. Mack started to hear fans yell from the stands, and his teammates didn't believe it at first:

This was a shocking moment either way, but it was even more shocking that Luck was standing on the sidelines talking with his teammates during the game like normal when people inside the organization knew he was supposed to be announcing his retirement the next day.

After the news was leaked, Luck decided to go to the podium and announce his retirement from the NFL a day early. Luck said he is constantly in pain, and the only way to get away from it is to get away from the game of football:

“I’m in pain, I’m still in pain. It’s been four years of this pain, rehab cycle,” Luck said, via The Denver Post. “It’s a myriad of issues — calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better.”

The retirement took many like Mack off guard, but it's clear Luck is doing what he thinks is best to have a happy rest of his life.

Now it's up to Mack, Jacoby Brissett and the rest of the Colts' offense to still have a successful year and try to bring another championship to the city of Indianapolis.
