Amid the news of Tom Brady joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philip Rivers signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Following his decision, Rivers spoke on one important reason for signing with the Colts.

“There’s a good dynamic there,” Rivers said via Stephen Holder of The Athletic. “And I do think there’s a trust factor that was built with our time in San Diego. I think that’s important for a play caller and Nick as the coordinator. It’s important to have that trust. Frank has called a play before and we’ve made it work, or I’ve communicated [something] to him. We’ve had a lot of those experiences together, those trust-building experiences. And I think that that certainly lends to the confidence that this is going to be a successful opportunity.”

Before Rivers joined the Colts, some people listed them as a likely candidate due to his familiarity with the coaching staff. While with the Los Angeles Chargers, Rivers had previous experience with Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni.

Of course, Reich is the head coach of the Colts, while Sirianni is the offensive coordinator. That level of comfort and trust led to the veteran signal-caller inking a deal with Indianapolis.

This past season, Rivers struggled, throwing for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions with the Chargers. Even though Rivers signed a one-year deal with the Colts, he is confident that his new team can prolong his career. Despite being near the end of his career, Rivers believes that a reunion with Reich and Sirianni will lead to success in 2020.
