The Indianapolis Colts bowed out of the 2020 playoffs early after they lost to the Buffalo Bills, 27-24, on Wild Card Saturday. With their season coming to a close, the spotlight turns to the future of 39-year old quarterback Philip Rivers.

Rivers spoke to reporters after the gut-wrenching defeat, and said that he is still uncertain what the immediate future holds for him. The 8-time Pro-Bowler also hinted that if his playing career is indeed done, he may find himself coaching on the sidelines instead, for much less stakes that is.

Via JoJo Gentry of CBS 4 Indy:

Rivers went 24-of-46 on Saturday, going for 309 yards to go along with two touchdown passes.

The 17-year veteran held an emotional press conference and admitted how special it was to be part of this Colts team. In March, the 39-year old signed a one-year $25-million deal with Indianapolis after spending the first 16 years of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. Head coach Frank Reich expressed his desire to have the former NFL Comeback Player of the Year back next season.

Indianapolis was not able to capitalize on the scoreboard as much as they should have, despite a strong first half in terms of yardage. However, they entered the second half trailing by four, with the Bills in possession of the ball. The Colts outscored the Bills in the second half 14-13, but it was not enough to launch them into the divisional round.

If Saturday's season-ending loss marked the final game of Rivers' illustrious career, he finishes with a total of 5,277 passes completed on a 64.9 percent completion rate, as well as 421 total touchdown passes.
