For Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd, the current front-runner for the 2018 MVP Race is not other than Indianapolis Colts franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

While Luck has been solid for the Colts this season, it’s not easy to make a case for why he’s having a better season than the likes of Los Angeles Chargers veteran Philip Rivers, New Orleans Saints gunslinger Drew Brees, and Kansas City Chiefs breakout youngster Patrick Mahomes. Luck is not even included on the NFL’s initial list of invitees to the 2019 Pro Bowl, unlike the aforementioned quarterbacks. In other words, it may seem a bit odd for the NFL to have a season MVP who is not even going to be part of the said exhibition game.

Having said all of that, Luck has been effective under center in his first season since missing all of 2017 due to a shoulder injury and surgery.

Through the first 15 weeks of the 2018 NFL campaign, Luck has racked up a total of 3,951 passing yards with 34 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. So far, his 67.3 completion percentage is the highest in his career. It’s also worth noting that a big part of his success this year is due to the excellent offensive line in front of him. Luck has absorbed just 16 sacks, a sharp decrease from the 41 backfield takedowns he took back in 2016.

It’s also probably safe to say that Luck would rather have the Colts win the Super Bowl than take home the MVP honors.

The Colts are currently on the outside looking in of the playoff picture with an 8-6 record.
