As soon as Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the Indianapolis Colts, a lot of people started bringing up Robert Griffin III. As the quarterbacks drafted first and second overall in 2012, their careers are always going to be linked.

For a while it looked like Griffin was falling out of the NFL, which led many people to point out how surreal it was that he ended up outlasting Luck in the league.

During an appearance on ESPN's ‘First Take', Griffin discussed his thoughts on Luck's decision. When asked if he thought Luck was truly done for good, Griffin demurred.

“I mean I don't know, I talked to him. My family talks to his family, my mom talks to his mom, I think right now he's at a place where he really does thing he's done with football,” he said.

That being said, the former Heisman Trophy winner did acknowledge the door is still open for him.

“But he could easily change his mind, he's 29, he's got a lot of years of football left. Shoot, I want to play until I'm 45, so he's got a long time to contemplate that decision. But at the same time right now, he says he's done, so you've got to take a man for his word and let him go enjoy his life with his family.”

Griffin obviously wants to be respectful of Luck, and it's interesting to hear that they still speak regularly after all these years.

Griffin is currently sidelined by a hand injury, but he's managed to reestablish himself in the league as the backup to Lamar Jackson with the Ravens.
