Through the first three weeks of the season, the Dallas Cowboys are off to a slow start, dropping a pair of games that have put the team in a bit of a bind. Wide receiver Allen Hurns believe he can help the cause.

Much of the scrutiny has been on the lack of consistent production in the passing game, with the criticism being levied toward the talent level the Cowboys have at wide receiver. Among that group, veteran wideout Allen Hurns voiced that he believes he should be getting more passes thrown his way, according to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic.

“The majority of my snaps, I feel like I can get separation,” Hurns said. “You will get frustrated, that’s part of it. The main thing for me is just staying positive in the head and control what I can. I can’t let that affect how I am. If I let it affect how I am then I won’t be getting open and I will be dropping the ball when it does come my way.”

So is Hurns getting open?

“The main thing is I try to control what I can and you have to be on top of your game,” he said. “If you’re really a student of the game and watch the film, I feel like I am (open).”

Hurns has struggled to produce in his first three games with the team with just four catches on nine targets for 51 receiving yards. He has yet to break out in any significant manner, as he has fallen into the fold with the rest of the wide receivers. Outside Cole Beasley's 132 receiving yards on 12 catches all have less than 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards on the season.

This has greatly contributed to the team's struggles in the passing game, with quarterback Dak Prescott passing for 170 yards or fewer in each of the first three games while the team is second-to-last in the league with 145.0 yards per contest. It has largely been the root of their offensive struggles in 2018.

That said, Hurns has an opportunity in front of him to grab ahold of a significant role in the passing game, as none of his teammates have emerged as legitimate threats in the passing game. It is on his shoulders to showcase that ability to prove he can be a reliable offensive factor.
