Dallas Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones is coming off a breakout year in 2018. It appears he hopes it is enough to potentially secure a long-term future in Dallas.

Jones has one year left on his rookie deal. According to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, he hopes to work out a new contract as soon as possible.

“You’re not going to find a better, more well-ran organization than the Cowboys,” Jones said. “The fans are great; the weather’s great; the food’s great for me. I live right in the city, too, so I want nothing other than playing for the Dallas Cowboys.”

It is encouraging to see that Jones is adamant about wanting to remain with the Cowboys. He has gone through his fair share of trials and tribulations to start his career. Fortunately, it is clear that he has finally found his footing.

Jones' career got off to a slow start as he tried to make his bones as a safety. As a result, he switched to cornerback prior to the 2018 campaign. He finished the year with 67 tackles and a career-high 14 pass breakups. Although he failed to record a reception, he still managed to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro.

There is no question that the Cowboys have a busy offseason ahead of them. They already picked up Jones' fifth-year option which will pay him $6.17 million in 2019, however, it seems he could end up with a new deal by the time the new season starts.
