The Dallas Cowboys were arguably the team to beat in the NFC back in 2016 with two talented rookies leading the way in quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott. The team secured the top seed in the conference and headed into the NFL playoffs with high hopes for a Super Bowl run, but fell short due to the late-game heroics by Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers.

In 2017, the Cowboys were thought to be among the league's elite once again. Unfortunately, unforeseen events derailed their season with Elliott serving a suspension and the team missing the postseason. Now the team has made some changes with wide receiver Dez Bryant being released and veteran tight end Jason Witten electing to retire. Despite these changes and lack of veteran stars, Prescott believes the team is as hungry as ever with the 2018 campaign a few months away, via Clarence E. Hill Jr. of Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“It’s hard to (surprise) people with the Dallas Cowboys; our standards are high,” Prescott continued. “But when you hear talk we don’t have this player, we don’t have that player. We don’t have a lot of well-known guys. But that only makes the guys we have hungrier.”

Unlike last season, the odds will be against the Cowboys in 2018. Prescott and company will have to embrace the underdog label in the same way the division rival Philadelphia Eagles did last year resulting in the franchise's first Super Bowl title.

The NFC is stacked right now with the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, and the Packers expected to be heavyweights in the conference. It will be a challenge for this young team to prove its worth.
