The Dallas Cowboys are one of the biggest sports brands in the world. They used to win a lot, earning the title of ‘America's Team.' But in recent years, the team has really struggled to find success. They have just three playoff wins over the last 25 years.

Last season, Dallas once again had one of the best offenses in the NFL. Yet, they still lost at home in the wild card round to the San Francisco 49ers. There is one particular element to their offense that Cowboys fans have not seen in a while; Dak Prescott running the football.

Prescott was recovering from an ankle injury that cost him most of his 2020 season. That hampered his ability to make plays with his legs. Well, according to Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy he is completely healed and believes fans will see a lot more of Prescott running the football this season. NBC Sports writer Michael David Smith captured his thoughts.

McCarthy said that he plans to install more designed runs into the Cowboys playbook this year.

Over the first four years of Prescott's career, he rushed for between 277 and 357 yards each year. However, last year he rushed just 18 times for 146 yards. When he is able to utilize his size and athleticism as a runner, it opens up the offense.

Things might already prove to be a bit more difficult this year with the personnel changes. Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper is now with the Cleveland Browns. Cedrick Wilson is with the Miami Dolphins. Michael Gallup is coming off a season-ending injury and there is no guarantee he will be the same player.

So, if the Cowboys QB can help the offense in other ways, that could make a big difference this year.
