According to a post on the Dallas Cowboys official website, the team has decided to part ways with veteran linebacker Justin Durant prior to their Week 17 road matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 32-year-old Durant, who has had two separate tw0-year stints with the Cowboys over a five-year period, was released on Tuesday afternoon after he appeared in just seven games this season for Dallas.

Durant was inactive for two games in October due to a groin injury, while he sat out during the Cowboys' recent three-game winning streak due to a concussion. For the Cowboys' 21-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks during Week 16 that knocked them out of playoff contention, Durant was listed as a healthy scratch and did not play.

With an open spot on the 53-man roster, the Cowboys decided to sign rookie linebacker Tre'Von Johnson out of Weber State University to the active roster so he can get some reps against the Eagles during Week 17.

Over his 11-year career after being drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Hampton University, Durant has recorded 648 career tackles, deflected 26 passes and made three interceptions. In the 2012-13 season with the Detroit Lions, Durant set a career-high in tackles for a season with 103 combined stops.
