The last time anybody saw Allen Hurns, he was being carted off the field with a gruesome injury. Hurns went down during the Dallas Cowboys' Wild Card round playoff win over the Seahawks, and it was clear right away how severe it was.

Hurns had surgery on his ankle that same night, and we haven't heard much since until now. Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said he expects Hurns to be with the team and ready to roll by the time training camp starts, per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.

Jones pointed out that Hurns could be a natural replacement in the slot for Cole Beasley if Beasley walks in free agency like many expect him to. Hurns was mostly a slot receiver during his days with the Jaguars. Hurns signed a two-year, $12 million deal with Dallas last March, and didn't meet expectations in his first year with the team.

He caught just 20 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season. He was passed on the depth chart nearly immediately by rookie Michael Gallup, and the trade for Amari Cooper further reduced his playing time.

Many had speculated the Cowboys would move on from Hurns this offseason because the second year of his deal wasn't guaranteed, but Jones seems to expect him to stick. In order to live up to the $5 million he's due in salary and bonuses this year, he'll need to greatly increase his production.

Just a few years ago in Jacksonville, he had 1,031 yards and ten touchdowns, so he clearly has it in him. Beasley departing would go a long way toward opening up some targets for him in Dallas' run-heavy offense.
