The Dallas Cowboys may have routed the New York Giants in their season opener last Sunday, but they are not entirely happy with how they played defensively.

Defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence was particularly displeased with the performance, saying that the Cowboys' defense has “something to prove” against the Washington Redskins in Week 2, via the Cowboys' official team website.

While Dallas scored 35 points in an 18-point win, its defensive numbers were not entirely pretty.

The Cowboys allowed 474 total yards to a mediocre Giants offense and were gashed for 151 rushing yards, with 120 of those coming from Saquon Barkley on just 11 carries. They also logged just one sack.

Lawrence has much higher expectations for the defense than that:

“We pride ourselves on being one of the best units in the league, and we didn’t feel like we showed that last week,” Lawrence said.

It should be noted that DeMarcus Lawrence himself is coming off of offseason shoulder surgery, and he doesn't think he is 100 percent just yet:

“I don’t feel like I’m still all the way back,” he told reporters. “Lot of things I can work on: my pad level, my speed off the edge, my counters. There’s so much that comes into this game that you have to really go through the drills every day in order to get the feel for it. I feel like I’m getting my legs back underneath me, but it’s still not good enough yet.”

The Cowboys will once again be at home when they battle the Redskins this weekend and will be facing a desperate Washington team that is trying to bounce back from a tough Week 1 loss in which it blew a 17-0 lead against the Philadelphia Eagles.
